Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP) is a Cisco-developed content-routing protocol that provides a mechanism to redirect traffic flows in real-time. WCCP may be use to redirect web requests to proxy server (like when using transparent proxy caching).WAN optimizers like Riverbed and WAAS also use WCCP to redirect traffic towards Steelhead/Cisco appliance. WCCP feature set is available in Cisco Routers, ASA Firewall , WAAS, Cisco IronPort and some catalyst/nexus switches. Cisco IOS Release 12.1 and later releases use either WCCP Version 1 (WCCPv1) or Version 2 (WCCPv2).
WCCP v1 is older version on WCCP. Later on WCCP v2 was introduced which provided enhanced capabilities enlisted as below –
