Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISRs) are modular routers with LAN and WAN connectivity. They support several interface modules, including Cisco Enhanced Service Modules (SM-X), and Cisco Network Interface Modules (NIMs).
While designing, planning for physical connectivity or creating configuration without device access, it is important to understand the port number of 4000 Series Routers. A slight mistake in accessing of port numbers i.e. slot, module and port number can bring down the whole implementation activity.
With the approach to make port number information readily available to network implementers and designers , below table gives view of types of ports , their numbering , associated console/Aux/Mgmt. ports and SM/NIM slots –
